Maintenance of Locks and Mechanical Locking Systems

We always use low-maintenance versions for our locks and locking systems. But these also require regular care, so that their functionality is guaranteed without getting stuck or snagging. We recommend a silicone-free penetrating oil for this. Remove coarse dirt before applying the oil and carefully oil all mechanical parts of the locking system. Especially the transitional period with frost-free and frosty phases is stressful for mailbox locks. During the day the snow/ice melts and evaporates, water vapor condenses in the mailbox lock and freezes again at night. Despite regular care, this can lead to non-functional locks. In this case, use a commercially available de-icing spray.

Protection Against Humidity and Dirt

Your post is only protected against humidity and dirt when it is thrown in completely and the flap is closed. Nevertheless, water can get in the mailbox (according to. DIN EN 13724 up to 1 ccm). This is not a reason for rejection. For some mailboxes we offer a rain protection grille. Please ask us if required.

Original Condition of Stainless Steel Products

The foil on stainless steel products serves as special protection against scratches and other negative effects that may be caused while production, packing and transport. Please take off the foil very carefully, then you will take much pleasure in your high quality product. The surface of stainless steel producs without protective foil are slightly preserved before packing. Possible stains are not lack of quality but are due to the preserving and can be removed with a soft cloth.

Regular Care and Cleaning

The use of high-quality materials, especially stainless steel, is a good precondition for a long-term and unstained visual appearance. However, the regular care and cleaning of the mailbox bank is very important, especally in coastal areas or in areas of higher air pollution. Also flash rust can cause corrosion signs which are not product defects though. If you notice discolourings caused by flash rust, you should remove those with suited care products as soon as possible. Additionally, we offer a special care product with order number 24035 which additionally protects the surface when used regularly. Powder coated and anodized surfaces are to be cleaned with warm water and soft household detergents. Please do not use products that cause abrasion or oxide removing products. Those corrode the anodising film and destroy the surfaces.

Microstructure colours
Surfaces powder coated with microstructure colours are more resistant against dirt and damage than smooth surfaces. In addition to our maintenance advice for smooth surfaces please note the following: Please use a soft, nonlinting cloth for cleaning and as last step rinse with clean cold water.

Acrylic glass surfaces (plexiglass)
Always use a lint-free, moistened cloth for cleaning acrylic glass surfaces. Do not rub the surface with dry cloth. If the surface is very dirty, pleaseuse non-aggressive detergents.
