Uncomplicated installation on almost any fence, simple harmonisation with the surroundings and additional space that was not necessarily expected are the indisputable advantages of fence letterbox systems. Bells and a communication system, both optional, complete the overall impression.

With the KNOBLOCH configurator for mailbox systems, you can customise your mailbox system according to your needs.
KNOBLOCH has been family-owned for more than 150 years. Today, around 200 employees use modern technology to manufacture mailboxes, mailbox systems and accessories as well as other high-quality products for entrance areas both at our old site and at the new KNOBLOCH City in the industrial estate in Döbeln.
At KNOBLOCH, you can choose from over 200 colours – or specify your desired colour as a RAL colour code. We also offer premium surfaces for an even more attractive look.
Our range of mailboxes extends from simple and functional to luxurious and playful premium. The look of your mailbox system is entirely up to you.
We deliver your new individual mailbox in as little as 10 working days. For mailbox systems with customised configurations, we only need a few days longer.
KNOBLOCH systems are supplied with detailed and easy-to-understand documentation of the individual steps. They are usually fully assembled within a few hours.
With over 150 years of history, KNOBLOCH is the oldest mailbox company in Germany, which is why we can give you a double promise with a clear conscience: you will never hear ‘we’ve never heard that before’ from us, and spare parts for your system will still be available in 10 or 20 years’ time.
At KNOBLOCH you have direct contact with the manufacturer and the design department. This is rarely possible with suppliers from the Far East.
A fence mailbox system is a mail receiving system that is attached directly to a fence, gate or gate. The system is mounted or hung in such a way that it is accessible from the outside and blends harmoniously into the property boundary. KNOBLOCH offers several so-called rod mats for attaching letterbox systems to fences, which greatly simplify installation, especially for systems with rear removal.
Space-saving: the system utilises existing fence areas without taking up additional space in the entrance area
Good accessibility: delivery staff can easily insert mail without entering the garden or house. Mail is always inserted from the front and removed from the front or rear (i.e. from inside the property), depending on the model.
Flexible positioning: letterbox systems can be installed almost anywhere along the fence. For systems with bells and a communication system, installation close to access routes is recommended
Quick installation: comparatively little construction work is required, as only a sturdy fence or grille is needed. For systems with rear removal, a rod mat with corresponding cut-outs for the removal doors ensures fastening
Robust, weather-resistant materials are required for installation on the fence. KNOBLOCH uses:
Stainless steel: durable, modern and rust-resistant
Aluminium: lightweight and corrosion-resistant
Powder-coated sheet steel: versatile in colour design and robust. KNOBLOCH applies high-quality passivation (galvanisation) to sheet steel to enhance corrosion resistance
Plastic: lightweight, corrosion-resistant and cost-effective, but less resilient than the other materials both mechanically and against weathering. KNOBLOCH therefore uses plastic almost exclusively for nameplates in mailbox systems.
Fence letterbox systems are usually one-offs, if only because the drill and fixing holes must fit the respective fence exactly. Nevertheless, the principle that standardised compartments enable higher production volumes and thus price advantages (which KNOBLOCH passes on to its customers) also applies here. The compartments can be customised to your personal requirements:
Size and orientation
Number and arrangement
Colour of the compartments and flaps
Type of flaps (ranging from simple to noise-damped to flat design)
Additional functions: integration of bell systems and parcel lockers as well as functional boxes with (almost) any content, from door openers for wheelchair users to access controls
Design: modern, classic, or tailored to special architectural requirements

A mailbox is usually installed on a fence or gate as follows:
Positioning: determine the location on the fence where the letterbox should be easily accessible. The fence must have sufficient load-bearing capacity. For KNOBLOCH letterbox systems, a rule of thumb is a weight of 4 to 8 kg per letter compartment, depending on the compartment size.
Fastening system: model variants with front removal are simply screwed directly onto the fence. The rear wall of the system should have corresponding drill holes.
Systems with rear removal are installed in a cut-out in the fence, which may need to be created. The dimensions of the cut-out should be clarified during the ordering process, as should the fixing material to be used.
KNOBLOCH always supplies letterbox systems with a link to detailed installation instructions, conveniently accessible via QR code. However, for larger systems, where several people are needed for installation, it is advisable to have the installation carried out by specialists to ensure stability and safety.
KNOBLOCH also offers a professional installation service. Just ask us.
In principle, fence systems offer more points of attack than their wall-mounted counterparts, which are protected at the sides. However, the differences are not significant, at least with KNOBLOCH systems:
Robust locks protect against unauthorised access
Hard-wearing, strong materials make breaking open and vandalism more difficult
Weather protection: special design details such as rain drip edges, seals and canopies protect the mail from rain and snow
Of course, we can only speak for KNOBLOCH at this point, and the answer is a resounding yes. This applies not only to the materials used:
Corrosion protection through stainless steel, anodised aluminium, and galvanised, powder-coated sheet steel
UV resistance: we only use colours and surface treatments that will not fade over decades
Rain protection: special constructions such as rain drip edges together with seals prevent water from penetrating the compartments
Private properties: detached or terraced houses where the letterbox should be accessible directly from the street without having to ring the doorbell
Residential complexes: larger apartment blocks with enclosed front gardens
Commercial properties: business premises or company buildings where a concierge is to be saved or relieved of some of the workload
The European standard DIN EN 13724 specifies requirements for size, weather protection and security. The key points are:
Size of the insertion slots: so that magazines and large letters can also be delivered uncrumpled
Accessibility: including for people of small stature and possibly wheelchair users
Protection against unauthorised access and vandalism
For KNOBLOCH fence letterbox systems, necessary or recommended maintenance is limited to a few key points:
Regular cleaning with a soft cloth and mild detergent
Polishing using special care products for stainless steel and aluminium, applied a few times a year
Function checks for locks and seals, recommended at longer intervals
The cost of fence mailbox systems depends on the material, size and features:
Small systems: from approximately 150 to 300 euros
Medium-sized systems: between 500 and 1,500 euros
Large, customised systems: 2,000 euros and above
KNOBLOCH relies on a modular system with standardised letterbox compartments. This enables customised solutions for different budgets, always maintaining high quality standards and a long service life.
