Flush-mounted
mailbox systems

Stylish and discreet rather than bulky, even with a large number of parties and spacious compartments – these are our flush-mounted mailbox systems. Further advantages of this type of installation: existing delivery and walking routes are retained and the space required is minimal. Flush-mounted letterbox systems. Briefly explained.

What is a flush-mounted mailbox system?

A flush-mounted mailbox system is a mail reception system for direct integration into walls. A corresponding cut-out must be available on site in a wall or façade into which the system is inserted. A flush finish with the wall is the most commonly used form, but partial recessing is also possible, where the front of the system protrudes a little from the wall into the room. In both cases, the result is a rather unobtrusive appearance with space-saving integration into the building.

  • Aesthetics – the flush-mounted or partially recessed installation allows the system to blend discreetly into the building’s appearance
  • Space-saving – no additional space required on paths or in the entrance area because the system literally disappears completely or in large parts into the wall
  • Weather protection where necessary – integration into the wall also offers additional protection from rain and snow if the system is installed in an external wall, for example next to the front door

KNOBLOCH uses the same high-quality materials as the other types of installation, but they are processed differently to enable installation in masonry or façades:

  • Stainless steel – durable and rust-resistant, ideal for exclusive architectural projects.
  • Aluminium – lightweight and corrosion-resistant, perfect for modern buildings and a discreet design.
  • Powder-coated sheet steel – robust and available in many colours. The system is optimally protected against corrosion thanks to high-quality galvanisation and passivation.
  • Plastic – suitable for indoor areas or as a more cost-effective alternative, but less resistant to heavy use. KNOBLOCH therefore uses plastic in mailbox systems almost exclusively for nameplates

Yes, the flexibility is comparable to the other types of assembly. KNOBLOCH uses standardised mailbox compartments as versatile basic components, which can therefore be manufactured in correspondingly high quantities and at correspondingly low cost. As these basic modules are themselves available in a wide range of variants, there is an almost infinite number of possible combinations. Customisable options include

  • Size and orientation (portrait or landscape format) of the compartments
  • Number and arrangement of compartments – from one or two to several hundred
  • Colour – letterbox and insertion flaps can be designed in various colours
  • Type of insertion flaps – from simple variants to soundproofed, flat or purely as an insertion opening without a flap
  • Additional functions – bell and intercom systems, parcel compartments, function boxes (e.g. for door openers or access control)
  • Design – either modern-minimalist or classic-timeless – to match the architecture

The mailbox is installed by fitting it into a prepared opening in the wall or façade. The typical procedure looks something like this:

  • Preparing or breaking out the niche – the dimensions required depend on the size of the mailbox system plus installation frame.
  • Please note that extras such as shadow gap frames require additional space
Inserting the body – the actual letterbox unit is pushed into the wall opening and aligned precisely
  • Drill holes for fixing – mark, remove the body from the recess, drill, insert dowels
  • Final installation and fixing – insert the body back into the recess, check that the plaster cover frame is flush with the wall, screw on the body. For outdoor installation, seal the plaster cover frame (weather protection)

KNOBLOCH always supplies mailbox systems with a link to detailed installation instructions, which can be conveniently accessed via QR code. However, from a certain size of system (guideline: if several people are needed for installation), it makes sense to have the installation carried out by specialists to ensure stability and safety.

If the front of the system is exposed to wind and weather (e.g. next to the front door), it is advisable to call in a specialist company to ensure correct sealing and secure fixing.

KNOBLOCH itself offers an installation service – just ask us.

Yes, high-quality flush-mounted systems are extremely secure, as they are directly protected by the masonry or façade on all sides except the front. KNOBLOCH systems offer even more:

  • Robust locking systems
  • Strong materials that make breaking open as well as vandalism difficult.

Absolutely – thanks to a well thought-out design and the corrosion-resistant materials used by KNOBLOCH. The most important points:

  • Material quality – stainless steel, anodised aluminium or galvanised and powder-coated sheet steel protect against rust
  • UV-resistant colours – no fading or peeling of the coating, even after several years
  • Seals and covers – special designs such as rain protection edges and rubber seals prevent rainwater from penetrating the compartments, even when installed outdoors
  • Detached and semi-detached houses – also with doorbell and communication unit if required
  • Apartment blocks – larger residential buildings where a uniform appearance and space saving are required
  • Commercial and office buildings – flush-mounted systems blend discreetly into façades and look professional
  • Public institutions – schools, authorities and hospitals benefit from a clear, flush-mounted solution

The European standard DIN EN 13724 specifies the requirements for size, weather protection and safety. The key points:

  • Size of the insertion slots – So that even large-format items can be inserted without kinking.
  • Accessibility – The letterboxes must be at a height that is suitable for all user groups.
  • Vandalism and theft protection – burglar-proof locks and sturdy materials.

With the high-quality materials used by KNOBLOCH, the maintenance effort is limited. We recommend:

  • Regular cleaning – wipe with a soft cloth and mild detergent to remove dirt and dust
  • Stainless steel or aluminium care product – apply once or twice a year if necessary to maintain the shine
  • Functional check – locks and seals should be checked at longer intervals to ensure they are working properly

The price range for flush-mounted letterbox systems varies depending on the material, size and features. KNOBLOCH offers a wide range of different letterbox systems. From functional to premium models, everything is included. Individuality and customisation are our strengths.

  • Small systems: From approx. 150-300 euros
  • Medium-sized systems: Between 500-1,500 euros
  • Large, customised systems: 2,000 euros and more

KNOBLOCH relies on a modular system with standardised letterbox compartments. This enables customised solutions for different budgets – always with high quality standards and a long service life.
